The delightfully dark new Kidrobot series from Patricio Oliver is spellbinding. The Cucos Mini Figures collection is a harboring of unique and devilish characters that are elaborate in both detail and imagination. These baddies are a vinyl nerd’s must-have.
Cucos is a blind-boxed series with thirteen figures and two chases.
In an epic move from Marvel, Astonishing X-Men has been released as a full-fledged digital comic exclusively to iTunes with a new episode premiering every two weeks.
The ongoing series created in 2004 was an awesome gathering of the X-Men universe and with the introduction of a digital release, this decade-spanning series can finally reach the masses in a new, and growing, medium. Smart move, Marvel. Smart move, indeed.
Finally, a Tetris ice cube tray. From concept to availability, here it is in all of its icy glory! Each tray is set with the most iconic video game shapes known to man and is available in a vibrant blue, green, and orange. This is what water was meant to be: molded Tetris blocks.
Heard of it or not, Mother 3 is revered as one of the most incredible RPGs unavailable (legally) to English speakers. Luckily, we can now marvel at Nobuyuki Inouie’s creation in a full-color paperback Mother 3 handbook presented to us by fangamer.net. Obviously this group is more than just a pack of misguided diehards, because the illustrations, 3D model renderings, and strategy charts are absolutely stunning. This handbook does justice to the Earthbound sequel we’ll most likely never see. But that’s not to say that there isn’t a way…
Aside from creating one of the greatest Nintendo DS games ever (Ninjatown), Shawnimals also manages to make great plushy things. See the Forest Spirit Wee Ninja, for example. He’s an organic little fellow with a heart of hemp that’s stuffed full with kapok tree fibers (whatever that is) to make him the earthiest ninja around. Standing at 9″ high and 9″ wide, he’s the perfect ninja for that kid who’s allergic to everything but wood and wool.
The Let’s Hang Zipper Pulls, by illustrator Aaron Meshon, are a quirky gathering of summer-inspired weirdos. Pills, tea cups, and a freakin’ lemon & lime chillin’ on a motorcycle are just some of the bizarre characters the series has to offer. All zipper pulls are packaged as a blind box series with 26 cute-as-it-gets companions.
Almost 6 inches tall, the Orange Crush Mini Amplifier is a hysterical homage to it’s much bigger counterpart. With tiny rubber feet, original logo, and a bevy of scaled-down details, it’ll be a tempting purchase for Orange Crush diehards. Here’s the (tiny) technical breakdown: a built-in tuner, on/off/overdrive buttons, volume/tone controls, and a headphone out.
The Shanghai-based design duo, PERK, have created a series of Chinese-inspired figurines that strays from the typical style of vinyl toys. Peculiar and attractive, these 3.5″ tall Perk Pioneers were featured in the Victoria Albert Museum and are gorgeous additions to the world of designer toys. There are 6 Pioneers in the series (including 1 mystery figure) in an assortment of blind boxes. Also, be sure to check out this video to see them in synchronized action!
Finally, there’s a unique way to dispose of your miniature grocery lists! The Origami Sticky Notes have different instructions on each pad for 10 different 3D origami models ranging from squirrels (shown) to water bombs to boats. It’s refreshing to see such an ingenious take on true recycling.
