DJ Hero
  • AESTHETIC 4

While most of us may have never dreamt of delving into turntablism, most of us also would never have dreamed of pretending to play guitar and drums on our home consoles.

So, put your expectations and opinions aside and get psyched about Activision’s long awaited turntable-based game, DJ Hero. With over one hundred complete tracks, and playable characters such as Jay-Z, Eminem, and Daft Punk, DJ Hero will have you cross-fading top forty hits into ear-kicking electronica and rap while, again, investing time into a plastic instrument instead of “the real thing.”

But who am I kidding, fake skills are better anyway.

GP2X Wiz MAME/Amiga/Console Emulator

This is the last and only handheld emulator you will ever need. The GP2X Wiz MAME/Amiga/Console Emulator (nice name, marketing team) does it all to the point where you’ll only need this and a toaster for the rest of your life. Wait, yep, it’s a toaster too. It’s been confirmed, readers, it’s also a toaster*.

This compact supermachine can emulate the Atari ST, Commodore 64, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, NeoGeo, and flash games. Not ridiculous enough? Well then, you’ll be delighted to know that the GP2X Wiz-thing has a built-in e-book reader, calendar, and voice recorder. You know, just in case we lose the master blueprint for every smartphone.

But seriously, this thing is pretty incredible. All you need is to know how to Google and the, um, “Handheld Emulator” and you’ll own every arcade game known to man. And then some.

*Not actually a toaster. Duh.

Just days after the heavily lauded Kindle Wireless, Barnes & Noble has released their own kind of e-reader, the Nook. Let’s just say things are going to get difficult for Amazon.

The Nook’s slim body houses a 3.5″ color touchscreen LCD, to find your favorite titles, as well as a 6″ e-ink display screen to read them. Sharing some specs with the Kindle Wireless, such as Wi-Fi & 3G purchasing and 2GB of internal memory, the Nook trumps with the ability to load & read PDFs, borrow friend’s e-books, customize the rear cover and expand the memory up to 16GB. The Nook has a tizzy of features that will make the choice of which e-reader to buy pretty simple. Hint: It starts with an ‘n’ and doesn’t rhyme with ’spindle’.
